Thanks for mentioning the 13 Colonies Special Event, Kayla.

It's a fun little event. I've never taken it particularly seriously. But .
. . this year, I decided to try for the 'Sweep' - logging all 13 state
callsigns plus the three bonus stations - in my spare time. My effort had a
bit of a different twist, though. I was not physically in my station to do
the operating; I was controlling the station remotely, from wherever I was
when I had time to listen for new ones. I used my Android phone to connect
to the station. And, I worked all the stations on FT8.

I worked some from the car. I worked a couple while I was eating lunch at
Fanueil Hall Marketplace. I worked a few while I was lying in bed trying to
get to sleep. I've attached a screen shot from the last QSO with bonus
station WM3PEN, to complete the Sweep. I made this QSO a couple of hours
ago from my hotel room here in Bradenton, FL.

And, there's a connection between the 13 Colonies Event and tonight's
speaker. AB1OC is the leader of the New Hampshire state team in the event,
using the callsign K2K!

Hello all,

I hope everyone had a nice 4th of July. If you weren't aware, the annual 13
Colonies Special Event is underway until midnight on July 7. More details
on that at http://www.13colonies.us/. I always look forward to this event
and made a clean sweep (plus the three bonus stations) for the first time
in four years, which was pretty exciting.

The BARS July newsletter is now available. Special thanks to everyone who
contributed this month. Without your contributions, there is no newsletter.
Check it out at https://bit.ly/BARSJuly2021Newsletter and feel free to
forward if you know someone who isn't on the email list who might want to
give it a read. If you've got an article to contribute to a future
newsletter, reach out to our newsletter editor, Marla, at wa1gsf at comcast.net
.

This Wednesday is the BARS month meeting. Fred Kemmerer, AB1OC, will be our
guest speaker. Fred will be talking about programs to help get new hams on
the air. This is sure to be an excellent talk, so be sure to join us at 7
pm on Zoom. If you're on the club email list, you should have received the
Zoom invite from Bruce already.

Also, this is your monthly reminder that BARS dues run from January 1
through December 31. If you have not renewed your membership for the year,
you can do so online at https://www.w1hh.org/join-or-renew/. If you're not
sure of your membership status, you can contact club treasurer Bruce
Anderson at w1lus at hotmail.com.

We hope to see you on Wednesday!

73,
Kayla
