Well, there is much sadness around my QTH today... I think I killed my
TS-2000.
I've had my TS2000 for a few months now and I'm loving it! The only
issue I've had with it was on a very hot day last month it did shutdown
(power off) during xmit. It came back on almost immediately. It happened
a few times that day. I caulked it up to a thermal protection shutdown.
Today, which was quite mild by comparison, it happened again. Only this
time, it did not come back on. It is completely dead - no response to
power button at all. I had done a pretty heavy FT8 session earlier in
the hour (I work FT8/4 almost exclusively) but was working a POTA site
on SSB at the time of the shutdown (sorry. HI8PAP - I didn't mean to
disappear in the middle of the QSO!). The fan was running at the time,
which is normal, but the radio did not seem at all warm.
I've confirmed the voltage on the supply cable (at the radio connector),
disconnected everything else, and tried a Full Reset - nada. The AT was
activated and I had recently done a tune on the active band. The SWR
meter on the radio barely moved during xmit. There were no obvious
'POP's or signs of the magic smoke, just the normal power-off sound.
Is it dead, Jim? Anyone know a good repair tech?
