Since you are decoding CW on your computer, I also suggest checking out the two new chat programs, JS8call and VarAC. I have not used JS8Call, but I have heard and read many good comments about It.

I have used VarAC and I can highly recommend it. VarAC has a slick user interface and uses VARA to send data and control the radio. Using VarAC, I had an hour long QSO with a ham in California at midnight on 40M with 100% copy during the QSO. VarAC and VARA do all of the transmit and receive switching automatically, so all I needed to do was to type in my conversation. My chat conversation was just like chatting on the computer.

The only issue right now is that LOTW does not have a selection for “VARA” mode QSOs. The LOTW team should be working on this soon.

Indeed! Check out Morse-It. I think I got the paid version. The decode is pretty stable and handles some fading well. Encode, decode, practice.

Great for demo’ing CW in the shack too.

My prime CW days have long since passed on. Sometimes I like to have a relaxing qso before retiring for the evening but if the other op is too fast it defeats my purpose. Rather not ask for qrs or fills. I checked out one on the App Store but it got mixed reviews. Anyone have any recommendations?
