[bars] Donation letter

I wonder if Gary can provide some kind of citation of the foreign and US law that says it can’t be? If you can’t, why ask another to do so? Exactly what protected technology is in an old Ham Radio?

I have a simple remedy for this – find out if said equipment is shipped to Argentina by its manufacturer. Or describe it honorably and see if US or Argentina stop the transfer based on an honest bill of lading. That’s all you must do to be compliant. If for any reason they find it unacceptable, it returns to sender. Done so many times, never a bounce.

If they do, what is the bet they won’t?

PS for your amusement, I shipped several of these (see picture at link) disassembled and shipped as separate shipments of “parts” to Argentina 50 years ago. That little red button to the right of the joy stick said “Attack” but not in any sense of weapons. Got stopped boarding a few planes with that puppy though. Good times. It was only Rock and Roll.

I am curious, though, who in the board gave you, a landscape artist, permission to be demanding such information from a member in response to my query?

It's a simple donation of old HAM radio gear and a decommissioned $10 Chromebook, not an export of secret military hardware. Never mind. I'll take care of it.

I believe this would have to go before the BARS board for discussion. Next meeting is probably September. Can you give irrefutable citation of the foreign and US Law or reference to chapter and verse

Hi folks,

I am in the process of preparing a donation to the Radioclub Olavarria HAM club in my wife's home town in Argentina. I am sending a Chromebook I converted to GalliumOS/IUbuntu with WSJT-X installed, USB adapters for sound and serial port, an almost complete AV-14AVQ vertical antenna and some other goodies.

However, customs to Argentina can be expensive. There is an exception when one club outside Argentina donates to a club in Argentina. With a letter from the originating club, customs fees are not assessed.

Would it be possible for BARS to provide such a letter if I prepare its content? No cost or liability to MMRA. I don't yet have the text of what the letter must say, so for now I'm looking to see if one of the clubs of which I am a member can help.
