The IC-7610 works similarly. There’s so much in this radio that there are TWO manuals: Basic and Advanced.
I’m still playing with the features.

It is possible to configure the radio to always use maximum gain (knob controls squelch), or an "auto"mode where AM and FM get squelch control and SSB/CW/RTTY modes have RF gain control enabled. At "noon" position basically gain is full and squelch is low.

CW works amazingly well. FM doesn't work, the board for it is an add-on and is not installed. In fact, it has no options installed. I was a bit surprised to see the CW option has to be soldered onto the main board. Backlight on the meter is also not working. I was heard once on FT8 but today is a nasty day for propagation. Solar activity on DXHeat is off the meter. The RF and noise attenuation work VERY well, better than on my 840.
