My SWR meter is too cheap, but it shows SWR over 3 in some bands. I set up
my antenna as per the instructions for "MidBand". It seems that may not
have been a good idea.

 As for HF static, well, yes welcome to the club.

Diminished? The daylight hours are already up to something like 12 hours or
more /day. :)
