[bars] When is a fuse not a fuse, redux?

Almost a year and a half ago my TS-2000 developed a problem with
intermittent shutdown that eventually graduated to brick status. After
MUCH troubleshooting the root cause was a power line fuse that had
transformed into a 1.2k resistor. I thought at the time that this was
so weird it had to be a one-off.
Well... now it's a two-off. My IC-756 did the exact same thing this
morning after some heavy FT8 use and sure enough, another fuse->resistor
transformation. Just to be clear, they don't show as open, nor short.
They read ~1k ohm.
Is this a known/common occurrence or do I live in some weird hole in the
universe where these things happen?
