I think what happens is they absorb moisture over the years, which makes 
the substrate material expand, resulting in resistance values 
increasing. A gentle baking might bring them back into spec - but for 
how long would be anyone's guess. Put 'em in your boat anchors and keep 
them warmed up on a frequent basis...
