Unfortunately, I couldn't make the BARS event this year, as I was visiting my brother in SC, but I did spot the Beaufort Radio Amateur Group, W4BFT, set up alongside the road while we were traveling to a stop. I circled back and stopped in to say hi and check out their operation. I didn't get a chance to submit something about it for this month's newsletter but will try to get some photos and a short writeup over to Marla for next month's newsletter, so stay tuned. Speaking of newsletters... We've got a great newsletter ready for your reading pleasure. Thanks, as always, to our newsletter editor, Marla, for putting this together every month. Also, thanks to those of you who contributed articles. Without articles, there is no newsletter. If you have something you'd like to submit for a future newsletter, be sure to send it to Marla at wa1gsf at comcast.net. Here's the link for this month's newsletter: https://bit.ly/July2024BARSNewsletter *Note that this month's meeting has been pushed back a week due to the holiday and will take place on July 10*. Also, note that the meetings are now hybrid and will take place at the Chelmsford Bible Church at 128 Gorham Street in Chelmsford AND via Zoom at 7 pm EST. Be on the lookout for Zoom info from Bruce over the next couple of days. This month's guest speaker will be Bill Mader, K8TE, talking about HF propagation. Be sure to check out this month's newsletter or w1hh.org for more info on Bill and his presentation. As a reminder, BARS dues run from January 1 through December 31. Dues are just $15 for the year and help pay for the club Zoom account, the website, Field Day activities, etc. If you have not renewed, you can do so online at https://www.w1hh.org/join-or-renew/. If you're not sure if you are current or not, email our club treasurer, Bruce Anderson, at w1lus at hotmail.com. Thanks and hope to see you at the meeting! 73, Kayla W2IRY -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... You may also find http://new.marksscanners.com/996XT/996xt.shtml handy for getting familiar with the somewhat tricky user interface. You might also look at programming the Mass State Police 800 MHz trunked system once you get settled in. It?s a wide-area simulcast system so you can hear troopers throughout northeastern MA. They tend to show up to most of the interesting calls in the area, beyond their own stuff. 73, Matt, N1ZYY On Tue, Jul 2, 2024 at 15:00 Richard T wrote: > The RS Pro 197 (Whistler 1065) has digital P25 automatically when you > program the town PD frequencies. Appointed to a third term as ARRL Section Manager for New Mexico, I am honored to serve in that capacity. I have been an ARRL Life Member since 1976, I continue supporting ARRL as a Diamond Club member. I was first licensed in Feb 1960 as WV2RBF then upgraded to General in Oct to WA2RBF. I changed to WA8WWM in 1967 when I moved from Syracuse NY to Detroit MI to manage the first Radio Shack in that State. In 1973 I joined the USAF and received KZ5WA at my first duty station in the (then) Panama Canal Zone in 1974. My career field was Ground Radio Maintenance, 304X of all things! I operated an FT-101D into a Collins 237B log periodic for occasional contesting, obtaining my first SS Clean Sweep mug, easier as a KZ5. I was the leadoff ?professor? at DX University at the Duke City Hamfest/ARRL Rocky Mountain Division convention in Albuquerque in Aug 2014, Contest Academy lead "professor" for 2015, gave another presentation at DX University for Ham-Con Colorado in May 2016, presented several times at Ham-Com, and did eight presentations at HF University at the DCHF 2017, 2018, and again in 2019. I gave eight more presentations at QuartzFest 2017 on various subjects and did ten more in 2018. I, along with AK6R and K3LR, led off the IDXC 2018 presentations Friday afternoon. I returned as a presenter at Ham-Com 2018 and 2019 in Plano TX. We have run three years of HF University at the DCHF and hope to do more in 2024. I presented again in Visalia at the IDXCC for DX University in 2023. I use N3FJP Amateur Contact Log. I import my WSJT-X contacts from the .ADI file into Amateur Contact Log, then, with two mouse clicks, submit them to LOTW. N3FJP Amateur Contact Log has a very nominal, one time, license fee. I paid the fee for the entire suite of N3FJP tools. Well worth the very minor cost. A bonus with Amateur Contact Log is, with a minor configuration change you can do in less than 5 minutes, you can use it to format POTA logs for submission. I assume other logging programs can also import *.ADI files, too. This should be a standard feature of logging programs. -Leandra AF1R -----Original Message----- From: bars On Behalf Of Tony Verhulst via bars Sent: Thursday, July 18, 2024 3:26 PM To: w1hh Subject: [bars] ADI viewing software Howdy, I'm logging FT8 contacts using WSJT-X. I currently use Easylog , which is feature rich and I like it a lot. It reads the radio settings via a USB connection. When I enter the call sign, it gets the contact name and location from QRZ and when I hit 'save', uploads it to LotW. There's no good reason to use the WSJT-X logging feature simply because it exists - especially since Easylog understands FT8. 73s, Tony W1DYS On 7/18/2024 8:44 PM, Leandra MacLennan wrote: > Tony: > > I recommend you use a separate logging program for all of your contacts. > > I use N3FJP Amateur Contact Log. You have to setup both ends to use the same port numbers, and take some config steps, and then as they say, Bob is your uncle! Fairly easy to set this up. In fact wsjt-x doesn?t even need to be running on the same computer as long as you have setup your network appropriately, including security/firewalls etc. 73 de ws1m bammi > On Jul 18, 2024, at 9:29 PM, Verhulst via bars wrote: > > Thanks Leandra, > > Your post has made me rethink my logging FT8 strategy (I'm not an FT8 convert yet - and likely never will be). Here?s a quick recap. I got licensed in 1988 as KA1RRW and then upgraded to WF1F. I was addicted to Satellite communications and I installed 4 projects into orbit (1991-2000). Three Ham projects on Space Station Mir and Slow Scan TV on ISS. I scaled back my antenna farm and hope to reinstall my verticals this fall for VHF/UHF. My work commute was very short for several years so I removed all of my car radio gear. Now I have a longer commute, so I plan on installing gear into two of my cars this summer. I finally retired from HI-Tec, I have been writing software since COBOL/Assembly days. Now I have a "new" career. I am a movie Background Actor and on-screen Precision car driver and classic car driver etc. I started about 2 years ago and I have been 14 movies so far. I even got knocked over my Liam Neeson in the movie ?Thug? [that scene was cut]. After a movie has completed filming, it takes 1 to 3 years before it shows up in theaters. Released Movies: I Wanna Dance with somebody [visible with Red/White shirt stadium] The Holdovers [Bowling ally] Madam Web [not visible] Janet Planet [In out door theater scene] Julia [Child], Season-2, [You can see my elbow as a diner cook] Not released yet: Thug, The Collaboration, The Instigators, The Perfect Couple JFK Jr., The Home Front, Hello Beautiful, Ella McCay Walking Dead, Dead City S2 [Driving the 1990 Cadillac] I hope to be on the air by end of July 73 Miles From k1cpr at bd5.com Thu Jul 18 21:52:55 2024 From: k1cpr at bd5.com (=?UTF-8?Q?Juan_Jim=C3=A9nez?=) Date: Thu, 18 Jul 2024 22:52:55 -0400 Subject: [bars] WF1F, I am still here, just not on the air.
