I have known Martin Jue for many years and always renew my friendship while attending HAMVENTION. I sadly note MFJ will not be at HAMVENTION 2024. ? In 2019, I flew to Memphis and traveled to Starkville, MS with Tom Medlin, W5KUB, for MFJ's 45th Anniversary. We toured and videoed the whole of MFJ and the other combined companies under MFJ. I was very interested in the manufacturing process there. The fabrication of the components and the product cabinets in the sheet metal shop. On Sunday, MFJ threw a "Picnic In The Park" which was well attended and we all got fed up. ? Sorry to see the manufacturing end close, however, there us still stock to be sold. 73, Bill Poulin, WZ1L On Fri, May 10, 2024, 6:42 PM Paul Graveline wrote: > Jue expressed gratitude to the many longtime employees of MFJ, some of > whom have been with the company for 40 years. To all our valued customers, Join us in commemorating the legacy of iconic ?You-do-it? Electronics Center. For 75 remarkable years, we've been the cornerstone of the electronics industry, delivering exceptional products and unparalleled service. After many fulfilling years of serving our community, we're announcing the closure of our beloved store. While the decision to close is bittersweet, we know that the memories created will endure. As we prepare for this transition, we encourage you to come say goodbye and take advantage as we sell off our existing inventory and place special orders for popular products. Additionally, we will be selling office furniture and industrial shelving at deep discounts. Please note we will be closed Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day Weekend. Our new hours of operations starting Tuesday May 28 will be 10am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Thank you for your patronage. June 1-2 a team of USA YLs will be activating summits across the states using 1x1 Special Event Station (SES) calls for each USA region (using the format W#Q). We encourage all of you around the world, OM and YL, to chase the Queens, and all SOTA YLs to activate. We hope this event will highlight the fabulous opportunity SOTA offers for women in radio and motivate more YLs to get involved with SOTA. Please spread the word, mark your calendar, and show your support by joining us for this first-ever event. If you are a YL wanting to participate but are not sure how, please reach out to either of us and we will get you rolling. You do not need your own 1x1 special event call to participate, but if you're interested in using the special 1x1 call that we obtained for the call area where you'll be activating during this event, just let us know and we will send you a link to the sign-up sheet. We also encourage the use of #YLSOTA and #QOM in your alerts, spots, and social media to highlight YL activity and this event, especially if you're a YL using your personal call. 73 es 33, Amy-AG7GP- ag7gp.amy at gmail.com Paula-K9IR- pmuscian at sbcglobal.net www.cmara.org CMARA | PO Box 60411| Worcester, MA 60411 US -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I've only been to two since getting my license in September. The stuff that's for sale is okay but I'm not into finding a deal on an older rig that needs work or electronic components for a build project. If you were into those things I would think it would be like being a kid in a candy store. In my limited experience, Saturday has a much larger percentage of younger people and a pretty good show of people under 30 IMHO. The plain purpose is a big ham swapmeet / giant yard sale. What's sold really runs the gamut, from high-end stuff to pure junk (said lovingly), some at bargain prices and some not. There's a lot of unusual stuff that can be interesting even if you have no interest in buying it. W1TP is often there with restored enigma machines, for example -- I could never buy one given how much they cost, but it's a neat opportunity to see them nonetheless. There are also commercial vendors. It's also a big social event. I typically spend more time chatting with folks than buying or selling radios, and I'm an introvert. NEARFest pulls a lot of people from around New England (and some beyond), so it's a good chance to sync up with hams you don't see often. And finally, there can be educational talks/sessions. Those are a lot more plentiful at Hamxposition than NEARFest, though. Both have VE sessions for hams looking to upgrade (or new folks looking to get licensed) -- I think our very own BARS is the one that runs the ones at NEARFest, even. I think it's worth attending one just for the experience, if nothing else. 73, Matt, N1ZYY On Thu, May 30, 2024 at 3:59?PM Steven Ford wrote: > Being new to this, I also like to know what goes on at these. Thanks, as always, to our newsletter editor, Marla, for putting this together every month. Also, thanks to those of you who contributed articles. Without articles, there is no newsletter. Here's the link for this month's newsletter: https://bit.ly/June2024BARSNewsletter This Wednesday, 6/5, is our monthly membership meeting. Note that the meetings are now hybrid and will take place at the Chelmsford Bible Church at 128 Gorham Street in Chelmsford AND via Zoom at 7 pm EST. Be on the lookout for Zoom info from Bruce over the next couple of days. This month's guest speaker will be Gene Spinelli, K5GS, on Clipperton Island 2024 TX5S DXpedition Highlights. Be sure to check out this month's newsletter or w1hh.org for more info on Gene and his presentation. As a reminder, BARS dues run from January 1 through December 31. If you're not sure if you are current or not, email our club treasurer, Bruce Anderson, at w1lus at hotmail.com.
