Yes, there are actual humans at both ends of the contact.  Is it rag 
chewing?  No.  Is it like a contest contact on CW,RTTY or even SSB?  
Yes, we exchange location and signal reports and that qualifies as a 
complete QSO.

Is FT8 for everyone?  Of course not.  But neither is CW, or RTTY, or 
SSTV, or rag chewing, or VHF, or satellites, or POTA, or 
name-your-favorite-mode/activity.  The beautiful genius of our hobby is 
that there is a cornucopia of ways to enjoy it!
