I have the tester purring like a cat who just got fed now.

The backup battery packs gave up the ghost long ago, and some of the straps
had even corroded away between cells, so I bought a dozen of them (not
cheap! $25 each!) and had the packs rebuilt by the tech at Batteries Plus.
I'm way too busy to do that.

Now they are both at a healthy 13.1 volts, the unit starts right up on
battery power and they charge when the unit is plugged in to AC, even if
the unit i turned off.

I also replaced the dried up and cracked rubber legs on the battery pack (2
had fallen off, 2 were there, someone was nice enough to leave all the
attachment hardware on there) so now i can safely stand it to on its end.
Got four more to change in the body.

The boob tube intensity/focus dual pot did not need to be cleaned, it just
needed to be vigorously exercised through the full range of motion to wipe
the contacts. Works perfectly now.

The test of the unit seems to show it works fine, but just in case I
ordered a set of extender boards so if I have to troubleshoot internally i
can get to the test points easily.

Now to hold my nose and dive into the user manual. Geronimoooo!! <splat!>
Oops. Wrong manual. 🤣🤣🤣

A black hole marks the spot where <insert favorite imaginary deity here>
divided by zero.
