"Walkie-talkie" cell phones, or Push-to-Talk (PTT) over Cellular, such as
with some Nextel handsets, leverage cellular networks to enable two-way
radio communication. While traditional walkie-talkies use a single radio
frequency for both sending and receiving, these phones use the cellular
network's infrastructure to establish a dedicated channel for PTT
communication. This allows for instant, group communication over a wider
area than traditional walkie-talkies.
