Message-ID: BARS members, I mentioned at the last monthly meeting that the Granite State Amateur Radio Society (GSARA) had done some group buys of 900 Mhz HTs and I would share details when I had them. Well, GSARA had a club meeting Friday on 900 Mhz (you can watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F0DRM0-NKo) and they are planning another group buy. There was limited interest in mobiles but was interest in HTs from the GSARA members, so it may be limited to handhelds only. Curtis, N1CMD, gave the presentation and knew some BARS members may have been interested. Hi is looking to gauge interest on the group buy. I don't have full details yet, I'll know more after I get back to him with how many people may be interested. *THE ASK: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN GETTING IN ON THE GROUP BUY LET ME KNOW ASAP.* Let me know if you are interested in an HT, a mobile (in the off chance they include those), or both. You will then be included on a followup email for final commitment with more details on what will be in the purchase and expected final price range. As an FYI, the last time the HTs were Motrorolla XPR 6580s which were in fair used condition (old municipal radios). They came with a charger, handmic, battery, and they were programmed for local New England 900 Mhz repeaters. Neither the handmic or battery had any guarantee on longevity. Both of mine have been fine but I haven't used the HT for long stints so I have no idea the battery life. The cost last time was estimated to be $35-$40 and ended up being $35. New batteries are available online with USB-C charging ports and I know some folks ordered those. Talk to you on 900 Mhz soon, maybe?? 73, Dave KC1TLF -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We are still looking for ham radio support for the annual Westford Apple Blossom Parade. The parade will be held rain or shine on Saturday, May 16th. The parade starts in Westford Center and ends at the Abbot School. It has been hosted by the Westford Kiwanis (https://westford.org/kiwanis/) and has a long history in town. PART has been providing comm support for many years. Parade starts at 10 AM, we usually muster around 8AM for any last minute updates and to insure adequate coverage. Parade is done usually before noon. Your assignment could finish earlier. When you finish you can make your way down to the carnival and get that sausage, peppers and onions sub you missed as Hosstraders/NEAR-Fest! This is a laid back event. Great for a newcomer to the ranks and just fun watching a parade. All you need is a 2 meter FM handheld that works with the Westford 146.955 WB1GOF repeater. Some assignments are stationary at specific parade route locations, others may be assigned to shadow one of the Kiwanis Parade organizers. We are looking for 12 (minimum) to 16 hams for this event. This is a public service event, so we will count this as EMA section ARES and RACES credit. If you'd like to sign up or need more information, please contact me, Terry KA8SCP ka8scp at arrl.net Terry M. I had the car painted a while back and I finally got the 2 antenna mounts re-installed on the trunk Deck. I use a dedicated antenna for each band 2-meters and 440. In my opinion, you will get better range by using 2x mono band antennas, rather than one dual band antenna. What is the new PL Billerica? Is the frequency still the same? After the car’s back on the air, Ill think about tackling the tower problems. Off topic: I retired from Software Development and now I am a Background Actor. I have been involved in 24 movies, so far. This week Apple TV released a new series called “Widow’s Bay”. It’s a fictional series about a Haunted Island. There will be 10 episodes this season. If you watch the series, look for me, I am in a few episodes. Check the opening scene in Episode-2, where the old man gets arrested. {The old house used in this scene, is a real house in Maynard} Break a leg.
