Guess what, I just took my own Drake 2-B off the shelf the other day and dusted ten years of cruft and cat hairs out of it. Next comes some tube pin and contact cleaning. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">But coincidentally I reread the 2-B manual section on using auxiliary crystals in the band A thru E crystal sockets. I had stuffed five crystals in there but now realize I had mismarked some for the ranges they cover. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">The manual highlights the fact that a single crystal can cover two ranges by moving from one socket to another. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">With that in mind, I ordered 100 crystals from ebay, cheap, for 13.5 MHz. This will cover 9.4-10.0 MHz in the B socket and 17.0-17.6 MHz in the D socket. 9.4 is a busy SWL band (31m) and 17.0 is below the 17m SWL band but you might catch some outlying broadcasters. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">The catch is these are not the large cased HC-6/U crystals but the narrow wire lead HC-18. However by bending the leads and folding them over they will fit in the socket. Or adapt to some .050” pins and plug in. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Anyway send me a SASE with two stamps on it and I’ll mail you one. Good in QRZ. And same goes for other BARS folks with a 2-B. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">And folks, if you have not heard one of these powerful and small 1960s era receivers, have a look at this demo here. </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr"><a href="https://youtu.be/953dyNgizYM">https://youtu.be/953dyNgizYM</a></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">This will give you a taste of what it can do.
