<div dir="auto"><div>My practice is to use standard phonetics first, especially when calling into pileups for run-rate stations who are operating at high cadence. If conditions are decent the I feel it provides the fastest recognition and highest chance of a call back. Admittedly I will sometimes switch to america-america instead of alpha-alpha, including in pileups where the op is taking the last suffix they hear since it makes my call longer. Or of course if asked to clarify the call (or part of it) I will use alternates but usually say both versions ("suffix no-vem-ber that is nan-cy QSL?").</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Not a contest but a couple days ago I heard a station "... sierra dog hotel".
