At one point, I considered taking this exam. I went so far as to study for it. The technical part is very similar to the Extra Exam. The other part is just laws and regulations pertaining to the use of radios and radar in ships and aircraft. </div>

It's useless if you don't get the necessary credentials to enter the controlled areas of harbors and airports. So, there is much more than merely passing the exam. To really do the work you are licensed to do and on which lives depend, you will need a considerable
investment in tools and test gear. To be credible, there is a need for some sort of apprenticeship or on the job training with someone that has practical experience.</div>

The best course really is to seek employment with firms that provide technical service in the transportation industry. They will be impressed with an Amateur Extra license, provided that their employees find you have genuine knowledge and experience rather
than just passing the extra exam. My problem is that at the age of 72, I am arguably not physically fit enough to be climbing radar masts aboard ships. If they want you on their team, they will pay for the test. </div>

I suggest you start by learning what GROL licensees actually do for a living and why they can NEVER screw up. </div>
