Greetings BARSians, (Yeah, I just made that up)

I've had a fascination with RTTY (radio teletype) since my
earliest exposure to amateur radio. Everything about it screamed
SciFi movie to me! The mysterious tones, the CRT display with
crossed ellipses that reacted to tuning and of course the hulking
Model 33 teleprinter nosily printing away! A few decades have
passed since then and most of that has evolved into a few simple
devices (sometimes no devices at all!) you hook between your
computer and your radio. It can be a bit fiddly at first, but
once you get going it is quite addictive.

There is a major RTTY contest coming up next weekend. There will
be MANY RTTY stations on the bands so lots of activity to test
your setup or make a few QSOs.

I've copied a Zoom invite to a new talk that will introduce you to
RTTY and provide pointers on how you can get yourself on the air
with the 'original digital mode'! The YCCC (Yankee Clipper
Contest Club) is a local group that focuses on the contesting
aspect of our hobby. BARS' own Ken, WO1N, is the current
president of the YCCC.

(And before someone chimes in about CW, no, it doesn't count as
'digital'. ;-) )
