I new that it was logarithmic (exponential) rather than linear but
that was about it. This video does a reasonable job of explaining
the basics, including the difference between dBi, dBm and dBd.<br>

BTW, to convert dBm to watts, divide the dBm value by 10.
calculate 10 to that power, divide this value by 1000 to get the
power in watts. For example, 50dBm: (50/10) = 5, (10^5) =
100,000, ( 100,000/1,000 ) = 100 watts. If I understand dB
correctly you could skip the last step by subtracting 3 from the
result in the first step. So 10/5 = 5, 5-3=2, 10^2=100.<br>
