AM radio stations are limited to 5 KHz bandwidth. In my opinion, what limits the audio in most AM radios is the speaker. If you want good audio buy a radio with the largest speaker you can find. Or add a large external speaker.

Subject: [bars] Looking for suggestions for good AM Broadcast Table Top Radio Receiver

Hi All,

It seems the club has several Shortwave and AM Broadcast Radio Listeners.

After a fair amount of discussion with the Sat AM Zoom meeting and speaking with my brother who is the one looking to improve his AM radio reception I thought I would ask BARS for comments.

For AM radio reception my brother seems to want to limit his choice to a
tabletop radio with good AM radio reception, includes FM broadcast radio reception, good audio, and if needed an external tabletop AM loop antenna about a foot in diameter.

Radio receiver in $200 price range.
Loop antenna in $20-30 price range.

He is excluding radio over the internet and WiFi radio.
Also excluding SDR.

Not presently concerned with SW listening.

I suggested he look at radio manufacturers like:
C. Crane
Sangean
Grundig

What about Sony?

AM Loop Antennas from:
Kaito
Tecsun
Terk

Model: AN-200.

I also mentioned radio equipment suppliers like:
Crutchfield (He said he could not find tabletop radios here)
Ham Radio Outlet ( for SW listener receivers )
DX Engineering ( for SW listener receivers )

Thanks

Steve
