There is a truly exciting art event taking place on Sept 9, 2023 at Midway
Artist Studios in the Fort Point neighborhood of Boston. The “State of
Emergency” Runway Show and “State of the Earth” Art Exhibit wants to raise
awareness about the close connection between racial and environmental
inequities and to inspire attendees to demand change.


The show is curated by two local artists, Dawna Davis and Liliana Folta.  Dawna
Davis, wearable art designer, has long been an advocate for those in need.

George Floyd’s murder acted as a catalyst for Dawna to answer the call for
racial justice. As an experienced producer of runway shows, Dawna has
tasked local designers to use their talents to educate communities about
racial and environmental injustice and to encourage everyone to get
involved in addressing these challenges.


Liliana Folta, environmental artist and activist has engaged with artists
worldwide. Through her travels, she has met extraordinary women who use
their artistic talents to portray the impact of diminishing biodiversity in
their countries. Liliana has organized an exceptional exhibit of
international women artists to tell their unique stories about a rapidly
changing environment and its effect on vulnerable communities.


A generous donation supports more than the runway show and art exhibit.  You
will also be supporting the work of two worthy community organizations:

Haley House, a 57-year-old Boston nonprofit, works to engage the Roxbury
and Dorchester community in solving problems related to food and housing
insecurity. It operates a food bank, sponsors subsidized housing and

SPOKE Art (formerly Medicine Wheel Productions) seeks to utilize the
transformative power of art to heal divisions, strengthen communities and
drive change. Members believe that art is a tool that will guide us toward
