Good Afternoon Fellow Members,
Sorry for the panic email a while ago! We all can still enjoy the social aspect of the evening, but it is my honor and privilege to announce that Peter Portanova, W2JV, and a Founding Father of Ham Radio University, will be presenting a talk to the Club tonight on Satellites and Amateur Radio, with an emphasis on POTA! Here is Peter's bio:
I was first licensed in 1964 as WB2OQQ, my wife, Adele, is keeping the call in the family. I am an active DXer, CW, RTTY, SSB, FT8/FT4, and enjoy contesting
In 1995 I moved from a codo in Bayside Queens to a home on the water in Massapequa, LI. I joined the GSBARC and was welcomed by KA2D and N2MUN. N2MUN was the instructor and with his help and encouragement I upgraded my license. N2MUN passed in March 2020, he will always be my mentor and friend.
I operate all modes/bands, my favorite modes are all of them. I enjoy visiting other countries, virtually, and having a reasonable QSO.
I'm also a member of AMSAT and enjoy mentoring others on the use of the Amateur Satellites. http://www.amsat.org/
I really enjoy participating in various Special Event Stations from the Long Island area, especially those that honor HEROE'S!

Having had the opportunity to be part of the K2H special event team has been a significant highlight for me as part of the Amateur Radio Service. It was also an opportunity to live stream every broadcast on the amateur bands using the streaming service TWITCH.TV TWITCH http://www.twitch.tv/w2jvpeter
The broadcast was received by many front line workers who were extremely appreciative of our outporing of appreciation. In addition a few that monitored the broadcast expressed interest in Amateur Radio.
We have now passed 71.427 lookups on QRZ.
We have 113 Operators in 50 NY Counties.
45 Counties have turned in logs.
